Abstract

One of the most important parts of a vessel is its engine, which is responsible for driving and moving the vessel. The choice of engine is very important in high speed vessels. There are important parameters for selecting the engine and comparing it with other engines to find the best and most suitable engine for the vessel, such as: performance curve, power to weight, fuel consumption, etc., which must be examined and analyzed to select the engine. In this research, engine selection criteria have been investigated.
To investigate the effect of increasing the weight-to-power parameter on the speed of the vessel, the Cougar vessel was used as a high speed vessel and the velocity diagram of the power with the engine used for this fast vessel, which is Seatek, and a hypothetical engine that weighs 750 kg more. It has been obtained and compared with each other, which shows that with the increase of about 1500 kg weight of the two engines, the vessel speed is about 0.6 Knut is reduced.
